Chino, San Bernardino County
Chino began as Rancho Santa Ana del Chino, granted in 1841, and became a town in 1887 when Richard Gird subdivided the land. Sugar beets came first, and then dairies, which for decades made the Chino Valley one of the busiest milk-producing districts in the country. Housing tracts have replaced most of the dairies since the 1990s.
